About Sashiko:
Sashiko is a traditional embroidery style that has been handed down from ancient times in Japan. The Japanese word sashiko translates to English as little stabs, a reference made to the simple running stitch employed by repeating or interlocking traditional Japanese geometric patterns, offering a vast creative canvas.
The simple and beautiful technique is said to have started with stitching layered cloth to make it strong and warm in the harsh cold. This Japanese Folk-art dates back to the Edo period (1615 – 1868).
Sashiko thread is strong and soft with a tight twist. Unlike embroidery thread the strands cannot be divided, so you stitch with the whole thread making patterns that stand out boldly against the dark farbic.
